Sophie Robinson

Sophie Robinson

Sophie is one of the industry’s top interior stylists, regularly employed by Britain’s best-selling magazines to produce inspirational yet achievable room designs. With over 15 years’ experience, she is regarded as an expert with a keen eye for the latest trends and high street looks.

After graduating with a BA Hons in 3D Design, Sophie joined BBC Good Homes magazine. As their Homes Editor she worked with a team of stylists to produce the monthly decorating and shopping pages. Going freelance has allowed Sophie to work across popular titles such as Ideal Home, House Beautiful and Homes and Gardens where her special skill is putting stylish schemes together, interpreting the latest trends, while making it achievable to recreate.

Sophie’s natural flair is expressed in the decorating schemes she produces for photo shoots and exhibitions. With a wealth of knowledge in this specialised area, she has worked for the industry’s top brands, publications and photographers. Along with her husband who owns a building business they have renovated and designed many properties. Sophie is passionate about empowering people to bring personal and original design ideas into their own homes. Sophie is the new judge on BBC2′s Great Interior Design Challenge, along side Daniel Hopwood.

Daniel Hopwood

Daniel Hopwood

Daniel has run one of London’s leading interior design companies, Studio Hopwood, for twenty years, working on high end residential properties. His knowledge and experience has been recognised by the industry by being elected the next president of the British Institute of Interior Design.

After graduating with a degree in Architecture, he joined the Prince of Wales Institute of Architecture where he gained a classical training. While Daniel specialises in Contemporary design, he does so with a deep understanding of the provenance of the building

His work is featured in publications worldwide as well as at home and Daniel is invited to regularly write articles about design for the British Press. He tutors at a leading design school in London and is often invited to impart his specialised knowledge at lectures at trade shows.

Daniel is a great believer that good design should not be exclusive but instead should be made accessible to all.  He presented and judged the Channel 4 series, ‘Britain’s Best Homes’ and has now followed that up by working alongside Sophie Robinson and Tom Dyckhoff in the ‘The Great Interior Design Challenge’.

Sarah Moore

Sarah Moore runs a Vintage homewares company and has authored two books. In 2011 Sarah wrote Homemade Gifts Vintage Style followed by her second book, Vintage Home,  published in 2013 by Kyle Books. Extracts from her books and her handmade pieces have featured everywhere from You Magazine to the cover of Good Homes and she is a regular contributor on the subject of craft and sewing for Country Living magazine. Sarah launched her first collection of handmade homewares with Sarah Moore Vintage in September 2012. Having entered into The Great Interior Design Challenge as an amateur Interior Designer, Sarah won three of the heats to make it all the way to the final. Her special skill is sourcing original vintage items, or working with period pieces to make them appear modern again to work with a new interior. She brings her unique creativity and hands on crafting ability to all her projects which has the appeal of true originality.

Jordan Cluroe

Jordan Cluroe has had a varied career first in the acting world and then in the fashion industry, but his one true obsession has always been design.
His natural ability has given him an instinctive and personal approach to interior design and over the past 3 years he has been honing his skills and gaining valuable experience, from designing and making home textiles to completing the renovation of a Georgian townhouse Hotel and restaurant.
Having always dreamed of building a career in interior design he entered the Great Interior Design Challenge, completing a range of looks from Hollywood glamour to colourful country cottage.
Jordan believes that by surrounding yourself with expressions of who you are, you create an environment for growth and happiness. His focus is on simple elegance and functionality with a signature use of colour and wit.

Masterclasses

Join Sophie and Daniel for a workshop on how to design your perfect room.


This is a fantastic opportunity to join Sophie and Daniel for a Masterclass in Interior Design.

Sophie’s area of expertise is room scheming and sourcing furnishings, furniture and accessories from the high street and internet, showing you just how easy it s for you to source items for your own project. Her experience with high street magazines means she has a fountain of knowledge on how to shop for the look across a wide range of consumer retailers. As a stylist she’s an expert in creating unique looks and colour schemes for any room and she’s particularly interested in how we can make our homes a true reflection of our own individuality through use of colour, furnishings and collections.

Daniel’s skill is defining the design process. Rather than dictating what is good or bad taste he prefers to help you discover how to find your own sense of style in order to achieve an exclusive look. He also has a practical, pragmatic approach to design and an extensive technical knowledge, which he would like to share. He will highlight the necessity of good spatial planning and lighting and how to achieve them as well guide you through designing fitted joinery. To help this process Daniel will offer access to his library of materials and finishes as well as guidance on how to put the designs on to paper.

Whether you’re starting with bare plastered walls or a room over cluttered with pieces you already own, this day course will provide you with a stylish design package ready to execute. Please not bathroom and kitchen projects are a specialists area, so if you want to tackle these areas- please contact us to confirm suitability before booking.

One-Room Design Masterclass

Each course has limited intake to make sure everyone has the opportunity to speak to the tutors who include

Sophie Robinson, Daniel Hopwood, Sarah Moore and Jordan Cluroe.

First session
Daniel Hopwood will lead the morning session with an explanations on how to draw your room and furniture to scale and, therefore, plan and create a successful layout. Issues covered will include: storage, creating flow, and making the most out of your available space.

Lunch break

Second session
The next part of the workshop involves creating your own mood board. This is a way to thrash out all your design ideas and present them on a board so you can shop in confidence knowing your scheme will be a success. The team are on hand to guide you on your choice of paint, wall coverings and fabrics, as well as how to integrate your existing furniture or invest in some well chosen new pieces. Sophie Robinson will present original ways to add style to your home.

At the end of the masterclass you will be ready to put your scheme together,  armed with

  • A scale drawing with  layout
  • A mood board with a selection of finishes and furniture options
  • Plenty of ideas and know how you can use when doing other areas in your home.

 

What you need to bring:
This masterclass is very hands on so come prepared to work! The aim is to empower you to design your own scheme that’s right and original for you, so in order to do that you need to come armed with the following:

  • Measurements of your room and furniture items
  • Photos of your room and individual furniture items
  • Any tear sheets that inspire the look you’re after
  • Any swatches for paint, fabrics or floor coverings you’ve collected
  • A laptop or iPad that connects to WiFi.

About the Book

The Great Interior Design Challenge is an inspiration on how to decorate with style. It contains case studies covering all room types, with ideas on schemes, decoration and upcyling projects as well and expert advice from interior designers Sophie and Daniel.


The book takes a look at a variety of historical architectural styles across the UK, from Regency to Victorian and Edwardian to Art Deco right up to modern industrial warehouse conversions. The designers, featured within the book, have the task of updating these rooms for the families’ modern day living, so there is lots of take home inspiration for decorating within the style of your own home. Including a number of upcycle projects from the TV series, technical know-how by author Katherine Sorrell and insider tips from the judges, this book will help the amateur achieve professional results.
